Home printers fail in a small number of predictable ways. Almost all of them are a connection problem wearing a costume.

"It worked yesterday" is a network message, not a printer fault.
A printer that suddenly disappears has usually not broken. More often the router handed it a different address, an operating system update replaced a working driver, or the printer quietly dropped onto a 2.4 GHz band it can no longer find after a router change.
The fix is generally to give the printer a stable place on your network and install it properly on each computer that needs it — rather than reinstalling the manufacturer's software bundle for the fourth time and hoping.

My printer says offline but it is switched on. Why?
Almost always the computer is looking for it at an address it no longer has. Giving the printer a fixed address on your network and reinstalling it on the computer resolves it permanently, rather than until the next router restart.
Can you set up a printer remotely?
Often yes, if the printer is already connected to the network — installation and driver work are done over a screen share. Getting a printer onto Wi-Fi in the first place usually needs someone at the panel.
Is it worth fixing an old printer?
It depends far more on cartridge cost than on the printer. If a set of ink costs nearly as much as a replacement unit, that is worth knowing before spending anything on it.
